Lavanya Infotech · Vishwas Nagar, Delhi

We make the parts nobody argues about until they fail.

A manufacturer, an importer and an exporter working out of one building in east Delhi — 363 lines across 31 categories, most of them made a few metres from where they are picked.

Three trades, one floor

What the company is

Three trades that only make sense together.

Most firms in this business pick one — make it, or move it, or ship it. Doing all three is harder to run and it is the reason the catalogue behaves the way it does.

01

Manufacturer

What does Black Cord actually make?

Black Cord manufactures CCTV power supplies, copper cable and connectors at its own works in Vishwas Nagar, Delhi.

Those three are what bring an installer back to site, and they usually get bought on price by whoever is nearest the counter. So we make them: conductor bought to a gauge and sold against it, insulation on our own line, connector bodies off our own tools.

Making it ourselves buys one thing nothing else can: when something is wrong, we can find out why. A trader can only change supplier and hope.

02

Importer

And what does it import?

What Black Cord does not manufacture, it imports directly — never through another importer.

The specialist connectors, hardware and components that only make sense at a scale we do not run, we buy at the plant. Slower and dearer to start, cheaper to continue: we know which factory a part came off, and the price carries nobody else's margin.

It is also why the stock position on this website is a real one. When a product says it is on the shelf, it is on our shelf in Vishwas Nagar.

03

Exporter

Why does a Delhi distributor export?

Black Cord exports the same lines it sells at home, built to the buyer's drawing — and the discipline that demands is inherited by every domestic order.

A buyer across a border cannot walk into the works, so everything has to be right on paper, in the carton and in the test report. A line held to that does not quietly relax when it is running stock for a dealer in Delhi.

If you have a specification, send it. The answer is a sample and a price, or a straight no.

The floor

Where it actually happens.

Five stops between a drum of copper and a carton on a lorry. Scroll through it, or open any one of them.

The shape of it

What the building holds.

The figures that are ours to publish. Anything we cannot stand behind is not on this page.

Who runs it

Three people, and a phone that gets answered.

A distribution business is a promise that somebody will pick up when a job has stopped. It helps to know who that is.

Behind the three of them are the people who actually make the week work — the line, the moulding shop, the two at the counter who know where everything is without looking it up, and whoever is loading the lorry at six. None of them are on this page and all of them are the reason it holds up.

Where we stand

Four things we will not do.

Everybody's about page says they value quality. Nobody's says the opposite, which is how you can tell the sentence is empty. These have an opposite, and some of the trade is on the other side of it.

01

We will not sell undersized copper.

A reel marked 0.5 mm and drawn to 0.4 is the oldest saving in this trade and the easiest one to make. It is also the reason a run of cameras browns out at the far end of a corridor two years later. If our price looks high against a quote you have in hand, the gauge is the first place to look.

02

We will not quote a stock position we do not have.

“Two days” means it is on the shelf. If it is coming, we say it is coming and we say from where. A distributor who says yes to everything is a distributor who is about to make your delay somebody else's fault.

03

We will not hide a price behind a login.

The published price and what it falls to at 50, 100 and 500 pieces are on the page for anybody. A dealer costing a job at nine at night should not have to ring somebody to find a number they are going to be told anyway.

04

We will not put a product in the catalogue we cannot support.

Every line here is one we can supply again next quarter, replace when it fails, and explain when it behaves oddly. A catalogue padded with one-off buys is a catalogue of future disappointments.

The name

Safety for Device is not a slogan about us. It is a description of what the catalogue is for.

Every supply, surge board, earth lead and connector in it is chosen on one test: does the thing plugged into it survive? A camera is not damaged by a cheap camera. It is damaged by what is behind it on the wall — an unregulated supply, a connector that arcs, a run of cable carrying more than it was drawn for. Those are the parts nobody specifies and everybody blames afterwards, and they are the parts we decided to be good at.

Come and see it

The counter is open six days a week.

Vishwas Nagar, Shahadara, Delhi. Mon–Sat, 10:00-19:00 IST. Walk in with a part you cannot place and somebody will place it — that is most of what happens here.
